Child Victims Act Public Awareness Campaign Launches in Times Square
MANHATTAN, NY – AUGUST 13, 2019: Safe Horizon launches in Manhattan's Times Square (Broadway and 47th St) the Child Victims Act PSA Public Awareness Campaign in advance of one-year window allowing older survivors to sue. Safe Horizon is the largest victims service organization in the country. Per Safe Horizon's press release: "Survivors are allowed to sue their abusers or liable institutions, no matter how old they are or how long ago the abuse happened. The window closes on August 14th, 2020. Survivors who were 23 or older on the day the bill was signed (February 14th, 2019) must take advantage of the window if they want to seek justice in the courts... The PSA is part of a multi-platform public awareness campaign including digital ad buys on Facebook and Youtube, as well as placement on movie screens before previews, beginning in November. Stills from the State Legislators and Brian Toale survivor, will rotate on Clear Channel's Times Square Screens. Safe Horizon has launched a comprehensive website (safehorizon.org) on the new law that answers frequently asked questions and provides guidance for survivors seeking legal assistance." The campaign launches months after Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Child Victims Act into law. Among the guest speakers were: Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul; State Senator Alessandra Biaggi; Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou; Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte; Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal; Ariel Zwang, CEO of Safe Horizon; Bridie Farrell, Survivor; Mary Ellen O’Loughlin, Survivor; Brian Toale, Survivor. #SafeHorizon (Footage by Tomas Abad/Getty Images)
