Keir Starmer interview in Washington DC; 18.08.2025USA: Washington DC:INTSir Keir Starmer MP (Prime Minister) interview SOT.Q - Just give us a sense of how Donald Trump characterised that phone call with Vladimir Putin and what was Donald Trump's demeanour as well?A - The overall day and the meetings were really productive and there was a real sense of unity between the European leaders that were here and President Trump and President Zelenskyy and then two material outcomes. Firstly on security guarantees, this is a really central issue and out of today all of the teams are working together on security guarantees so that's the Coalition of the Willing where we've already got 30 countries now working with the US and we've tasked our teams to do the detail on that security guarantee over the course of coming days. A real sense of urgency there. And then a recognition that on issues of territory, that's a matter for Ukraine and hence the call with President Putin and the agreement there will be a bilateral between President Putin and President Zelenskyy, location to be agreed, and then a trilateral agreement or a trilateral meeting. These were both the outcomes that we the United Kingdom wanted from today, really important to Ukraine, to Europe, but also to everybody in the United Kingdom, a lot of careful planning going into a good and constructive meeting today and that real sense of unity which was absolutely clear in the meetings.Q - Can you just give me a bit of colour on how he characterised that calll?A - Well we took the discussion in the meeting into stages.
