Congressmen Upton exchange with Equifax executive at hearing on data breach

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman emeritus Fred Upton reminds former Equifax executive Richard Smith at an oversight hearing into a data breach at the company that consumer data is very important to American families, holding up a 130 page report on an individual and if you know how extensive such reports are, asking Smith, whether compromised data can be manipulated, which Smith denies. Upton says credit data is needed to obtain a job, purchase a vehicle and of the purposes, clarifying from Smith, whether employment data and tax information is included in credit reports.
