Spirochaete bacteria are spiral shaped bacteria that have a flagella running lengthwise between the cell membrane and cell wall allowing it to twist and move. There are various types of bacteria within the Spirochaete Phylum that cause a variety of ailments including syphilis (Treponema pallidium) and lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi).
