Oirase River and Gorge is a picturesque mountain stream in Aomori Prefecture, which is one of the most famous and popular destinations during the seasons of fresh greenery and autumn colors. Oirase Stream is the only river draining Lake Towada, a large caldera lake. About nine kilometer upper reaches of the stream forms a beautiful gorge with numerous rapids and waterfalls, constituting a part of Towada-Hachimantai National Park. It runs through a virgin forest rich in variety, including white cedar, Japanese beech and maple trees.
