Never Again - Holocaust Memorial Wall, Dachau Concentration Camp - stock photo
The words "Never Again" appear as a poignant warning on a great stone wall within the main yard of Germany's Dachau Concentration. Written in Hebrew, French, English, German and Russian, the wall stands in remembrance of the many tens of thousands who died horribly at Dachau, and the many millions more who suffered the same fates at Hitler's other, larger camps.
Dachau was Germany's first purpose-built concentration camp and became the prototype for all of the camps that followed. An estimated 188,000 prisoners perished in Dachau alone between its opening and its liberation on April 29, 1945, by the U.S. Seventh Army’s 45th Infantry Division.
