During the summer months, the beautiful Arras "Grand-Place" (French for great square or plaza) becomes completely car-free and is dedicated to the only enjoyment of pedestrians and cyclists. In addition, bars and restaurants deploy their umbrellas and patio furniture to accommodate the locals as well as the thousands of tourists visiting the city and the region famous for its monuments and sites related to the First World War. This beautiful square dates from the 11th century and is 184 m long and 96 m wide. 155 houses built in baroque Flemish style surrounds it. The old square is dominated by 75 m tall gothic style tower clock built in 1462.
