Ceremony Held In Derry To Commemorate Easter Rising
LONDONDERRY, NORTHERN IRELAND - APRIL 05: A young dissident republican supporter stands in Derry City cemetery during a 1916 wreath laying event as snow falls on April 5, 2021 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Due to Covid-19 concerns, a formal commemorative event was called off by its organisers, the Derry 1916 Commemoration Committee, which had originally encouraged people to attend the commemoration in Creggan on Easter Monday. The 1916 Easter Rising rebellion was an attempt by Irish forces to overthrow the British government in Ireland. Although unsuccessful - British forces defeated the rebellion and executed its leaders - it was seen as a significant move in the creation of the Irish republic.
