Yaozhou celadon six-lobed bowl, early Jin dynasty, second quarter of 12th century.
Yaozhou celadon six-lobed bowl with carved and moulded decoration of ducks and lotus, early Jin dynasty, second quarter of 12th century. A Northern celadon six lobed bowl from Shaanxi province. The exterior is plain and gently curves to the rim from a small foot. The interior is decorated in the small central medallion with sichel-shaped floral group surrounded by a band of three ducks amid waves under a broad upper band of continuous floral scroll. The lobes are accentuated by lines of slip down to the duck decorated band. The decoration is probably moulded with additional combed highlights. The bowl is covered all over by a crackled thick bubbly celadon glaze of slightly greyish sea green colour. (Photo by Museum of East Asian Art/Heritage Images/Getty Images)
