KYIV, UKRAINE - 2025/02/08: Witches of Bucha, a group of female volunteer soldiers, undergo tactical shooting training. In Bucha, a predominantly female volunteer unit known as the Witches of Bucha is playing a crucial role in Ukraine's defense, intercepting Russian drone attacks. Comprised mostly of women, many of whom survived the horrors of Russia's initial invasion, the unit was formed as more men were sent to the frontlines. Armed with aging Soviet-era machine guns, they operate at night, scanning the skies for incoming drones and filling critical gaps in Ukraine's air defense. Beyond their military role, these volunteers juggle civilian jobs, from teaching to medicine, demonstrating resilience and determination.
