First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt Watches Banjo Players
(Original Caption) 8/12/1933-White Top Mountain, Virginia- Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt is shown with the group of Virginia "Ridge Runners" who entertained her. This community was once the home of the late Elliot Roosevelt, father of Mrs. Roosevelt, and it was his wish that sometime during her life, his famous daughter should meet his Virginia mountain friends. The First Lady was entertained by crack mountain singers and players, and was shown sights that interested her father. Here, "Happy Days are Here Again" is played by these Mountain Hill-Billies for Mrs. Roosevelt and her guest Nancy Cook, standing in back, during their visit.
