Toni Sailer Skiing

(Original Caption) Twenty year old ski prodigy Toni Sailer streaks past the finish line in the men's giant slalom in the seventh Winter Olympiad to lead the Austrian team to a feat unparalleled in Winter Game history. The Austrians swept the first three places in the event, with Sailer completing the 1.65 mile long course in three minutes and one tenth of a second, a fabulous 6.2 seconds faster than the second place winner. When told Sailer didn't believe it, and questioned the accuracy of the stop watches. The watches were right. It was the biggest margin ever in an Olympic alpine race. On January 31st, Sailer also won the men's special slalom, a run through 94 gate and considered the toughest ever devised for an international ski event.
