Tourists enjoy the Coatepeque lake, in Santa Ana, 55 kms west of San Salvador, affected by Microsystis aeruginosa, Oscillatoria limosa and Ceratium furca waterweed which have turned its colour to blue-turquoise, on September 16, 2012. The Salvadorean ministry of Health and Environment has banned the consumption of water and lake species as well as recreational activities and fishing until the results of the investigation are ready.
