Crowds Attending Anti-Draft Commencement
(Original Caption) Berkeley, Calif.: Thousands of University of California students and faculty members dared the wrath of Gov. Ronald Reagan by attending this solemn anti-draft "Vietnam Commencement." The hour long ceremony on steps of Sproul Hall, highlighted by a pledge by several hundred students to refuse military service, resembled a graduation program. There were no incidents. Gov. Reagan urged the Berkeley administration and university regents to forbid the program, which he termed, "so indecent it would border on obscene."
