'Balenciaga Y La Pintura Española' Exhibition Opening
MADRID, SPAIN – JUNE 17. The Thyssen-Borrnemisza Museum host the exhibition ‘Balenciaga y la pintura espanola’ (Balenciaga and Spanish Painting) to showcase the links between the creations of Cristobal Balenciaga, the most admired and influential fashion designer of all time, and Spanish painting tradition from the 16th to the 20th century.
The exhibition is a journey through a succession of dialogs between these canvases and the most representative garments created by the great couturier. Balenciaga draws inspiration from El Greco’s color palette, borrows the black from a court painting by Pantoja de la Cruz, evokes the silhouettes of Zurbaran’s monks and nuns, recreates Arellano’s vases in his prints, conjures up the lacework and muslin of Goya’s portraits… The exhibition will be on view from June 18 through September 22, 2019.
