Recipients of Football Hall of Fame Awards on Field
(Original Caption) The national Football Hall of Fame presentation on October 17th at the Notre Dame Pittsburgh game is shown in this photo. From left to right is Father Edmund Joyce, Executive Vice President of Notre Dame; Arch Ward, Sports Editor of The Chicago Tribune, who made the presentation; Mrs. Knute (Bonnie) Rockne; Mrs. Paul Taylor, sister of George Gipp; Ed Krause, Notre Dame Athletic Director; and Elmer Layden, one of the "four horsemen" of Notre Dame. Layden, George Gipp, and Knute Rockne were the three elected to the Football Hall of Fame. As Rockne and Gipp are deceased, the former's widow and the latter's sister accepted the certificates.
