The legendary trans-continental train "T

Darwin, AUSTRALIA: The legendary trans-continental train "The Ghan" named after the Afghan camel-drivers who opened up the outback in Darwin, 08 February 2006. The Ghan, named for the pioneering Afghan camel drivers who blazed a trail into what is known as the Red Centre of Australia first ran to the storied town of Alice Springs in 1929. The original plan to extend the railway to Darwin was shelved, but more than 70 years and about a billion US dollars later, the Ghan first steamed into Darwin in February 2004.
