(Original Caption) The "Honest John" rocket, which is capable of carrying both atomic and high explosive warheads, was shown to the public in Europe for the first time today. The rocket is now in use with the United States Army in Europe. The "Honest John" is a free flight rocket as distinguished from guided missiles. It has the accuracy of a standard artillery weapon, however one high explosive round can deliver on a target the effect of hundreds of artillery shells. The "Honest John" consists of a rocket weighing several tons and a highly mobile self-propelled launcher. It can be used to provide close fire support in ground combat operations. Negatives show the "Honest John" being put on the launching platform and the demonstration crew getting ready to fire it. The weapon was not fired here because of space limitations.
