REMOVING NAME OF MISIDENTIFIED DENFENDANT
Suspected members of Al-Qaeda in Yemen, Ali Al-Kurdi (L) and unidentified fellow defendant (R), are seen behind the bars during the first hearing in their trial at a court in Sanaa, 22 February 2006. The 17 defendants face charges of plotting attacks on Western targets in Yemen on orders from Al-Qaeda's Iraq frontman Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. They are also suspected of plotting "to attack places where there are Westerners, including Aden Hotel," in the southern port city of Aden. The ministry website said the defendants included three Syrians, but did not specify the nationalities of the others.
