Students' protests at the Tiananmen Square (Heavenly Peace Square): the protests were triggered the manifestation commemorating the death of deposed Communist Party General Secretary Hu Yaobang, a liberal reformer. During the 7 weeks of protest students were joined by factory workers and intelectuals. At some moments the number of people gathered on the square reached 500 thousand.
