Civil War in Liberia

AFL soldiers stand over the body of a young man killed during the Liberian Civil War. AFL forces under pressure from Ghanaian ECOMOG forces are defending the Schieffelin front, 15 kilometers from Monrovia. The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) is the national army under the Samuel Doe regime. By 1992, the AFL maintained only limited authority after most of its equipment had been damaged or destroyed during the Liberian Civil War. Other factions in conflict with the AFL include the peacekeeping force (ECOMOG) from the Economic Community of West African States and the NPFL (National Patriotic Front of Liberia) rebels led by Charles Taylor. | Location: Schieffelin, Liberia.
