President Eisenhower Signs Mid-East Resolution

President Eisenhower (left) is shown signing the Middle East Resolution, popularly known as the "Eisenhower Doctrine" at the White House yesterday. The measure, which commits the United States to use American troops -- if necessary -- to combat Communist aggression in the area, is shown (right) with the chief Executive's signature of approval. After the signing of the historic measure, Mr. Eisenhower stated the resolution demonstrates "The will of the American people to preserve peace and freedom in the world."
