Premier Edgar Faure Talking to Reporters
(Original Caption) Premier Edgar Faure is besieged by reporters with microphones as he left the Elysee Palace after the cabinet voted to dissolve the National Assembly, making necessary an early election. The cabinet meeting was presided over by French president Rene Coty, who signed the decree yesterday. It was the first time the executive power dissolved the assembly in 78 years and represented a victory of Faure over former premier Pierre Mendes-France.
