Prague, CZECH REPUBLIC: This photo taken 15 November 2005 shows a page of the biggest medieval manuscript in the world, the "Codex Gigas" or "Devil's Bible," displayed at the Nationa Library in Stockholm The Devil's Bible was written at the beginning of the 13th century, the parchment manuscript was considered at the time as the "the eigth wonder of the world," due to its impressive proportions (92 x 50.5 x 22 cm), its 624 pages for a weight of 75 kg. The masterpiece is the work of one monk from the Podlazice monastery, who fullfilled the functions of time copy-writer, illustrator and graphic designer. This parchment manuscript was taken to Sweden at the end of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) as soldiers under the Swedish general Konigsmark captured Prague. After being kept in Sweden for over 350 years the Stockholm Royal Library has agreed to lend the giant munuscript for the purposes of an exhibition planned at the beginning of 2007 in part of the Clementium, the former Jesuit college.
