UK - Leicester - English Defence League Protest
A phalanx of police officers, numbering in excess of 1,400, equipped with riot gear and security dogs, kept a rally of 1,000 English Defence League (EDL) members under control in Leicester, England on October 9, 2010. Bricks and smoke bombs were thrown at police and several arrests were made in Leicester's largest policing operation in 25 years. A counter-protest demonstration of the Unite Against Facism (UAF) took place nearby. (Photo by Mark Makela/Corbis via Getty Images)
