Guy Fawkes Night
Nov. 5, 2011 - London, England, UK - An effigy of Guy Fawkes burns on Guy Fawkes night, festivities of bonfires and fireworks, in Highgate, London. The day originated in 1605 with the failed gunpowder plot to blow up Parliament and kill King James. Fires were lit that first November 5th with effigies to celebrate that the King survived. However the meaning has been much transformed since with effigies made of figures in the public ire to meet the fate of the fire.
