(Original Caption) 9/18/1953-New York, NY- Sen. Joseph R.McCarthy stands before a crowded courtroom as his Senate Permanent Investigating Subcommittee holds a hearing. During the hearing McCarthy cited lawyer David Freedman for contempt because of his refusal to give information regarding Communist affiliations. The WI Sen. also had another lawyer, Abraham Unger, ejected from the courtroom for making "a Communist transmission belt" out of the room. Seated at the right is Roy M.Cohn, Chief Counsel for the Subcommittee.
