Sir John was revealing ways in which he intends to rein in street criminals in the capital while maintaining effective anti-terrorism policing following the events of September 11. The balance between ensuring the safety of London's most famous landmarks and cracking down on muggers is a difficult one for the Met but Sir John's new package of measures is expected to make a significant impact.
