(Original Caption) 6/13/1955-Le Mans, France: A Priest, (Center) and relatives of the victims search the debris of the Mercedes sports car which caused the worst disaster in racing history at Le mans. The car, driven by Pierre Levegh, burst into flames in stands packed twenty deep, killing a total of 79 persons and injuring another 75. The catstrophe failed to stop the 24 hour speed grind, in spite of a plea sent to racing officials by French President Coty.
