Three Rebels Killed In Kashmir Gun Battle

BAHMNOO, KASHMIR, INDIA - JULY 04: Indian army troopers leave the area after a gun battle between Indian government forces and rebels on July 4, 2017 in Bahmnoo, 60 km (37 miles) south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, India. Indian Government forces killed three rebels in a 24-hour long gun battle in Bahmnoo village of south Kashmirs Pulwom district while 35 civilians were wounded in anti-India protests and clashes in support with the rebels. The gun fighting ended today morning after Indian military forces used multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to blast the residential house where the rebels took refuge. Five residential houses of Kashmiri Muslims were destroyed during the gun battle. Six Indian police and an Indian trooper were also wounded in the battle. The gunfight triggered violent clashes after hundreds of Kashmiris marched to the gun battle site to help the trapped rebels escape. Government forces fired many live rounds, metal pellets and tear gas shells at Kashmiris to stop the march by rock-throwing protesters who were chanted slogans such as "Go India, go back" and "We want freedom."
