Road To Recovery: Cobargo Residents Rebuilding Their Lives In The Wake Of Bushfires

The small town of Cobargo on the New South Wales south coast was devastated when bushfires tore through the area on New Year's Eve on 31 December 2019. Two people were killed and dozens of homes and properties were destroyed as Cobargo became one of the worst affected communities by what is now known as the Black Summer fires. Just over four months on, recovery works are slowly beginning as contractors start to remove the rubble and remains of the destroyed buildings around town. For Cobargo residents, the road to emotional recovery has also been slow going as the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and social distancing measures further exacerbate feelings of isolation.
