Interior View of Lockheed Plant

(Original Caption) A general view of the mechanized assembly line in operation at the huge plant of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation showing lightning P-38 is shown. The fighter planes are being assembled in the same manner that automobiles were built in the piping times of peace. The Lightnings come down the line at the right, and are shunted to the middle line where they grow their wings and engines. They are then moved backwards to the final assembly hangar from which they are shunted over to the line at left. Then they leave this last line where they are ready for camouflage paint, an installation for the mechanized line, that took eight days.
