Five week old hippopotamus calf nicknamed 'Muddy' (L) is watched carefully by her mother Primrose (R) at her enclosure where she has trebled her weight to 60kgs since her birth at the Werribee Open Range Zoo, in Melbourne on May 6, 2008. The gestation period for the hippo is between 7.5 and 8 months, and the birth is the result of the introduction that Keepers arranged last winter between Primrose and Harry. Keepers have observed the calf suckling, and it appears to be strong and healthy. The Zoo plans a competition to name the young hippo.
