(Original Caption) Fiendish "Murder Ring" Said to Have Killed Nine Osage Indians for Oil Wealth. W.K. Hale, wealthy rancher and oil man, and others, were indicted by the Federal Court, January 9, at Guthrie, Oklahoma, charged wtih the murder of Henry Roan, wealthy Osage Indian, one of nine slain, according to federal agents, by a murder ring which sought to obtain the fortunes of the Indians which they received from their oil lands. Rita Smith, who was killed when her husband's home was mysteriously blown up. She is one of the nine wealthy Indians who have met death in a suspicious manner.
