Congo rebels on active volcano

[UNVERIFIED CONTENT] Armed members of the M23 rebel group man a frontline position overlooking Goma, in the shadow of the Nyiragongo Volcano, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) June 07, 2013. Many of the rebels had been absorbed into the DRC's armed forces under the terms of an earlier peace deal between the CNDP (rebels) and FARDC (national army) which broke down in March 2012. They briefly captured Goma, the DRC's second largest city, in November 2012, but withdrew to the countryside north of the city and control a large swathe of territory along the border with Rwanda and Uganda. Rwanda's President Paul Kagame has repeatedly denied accusations that his armed forces have helped to train, equip and pay the M23 group.
