'World's Heaviest Kid' Has Saggy Skin Surgery
WEST JAVA, INDONESIA - SEPTEMBER 6, 2019: Aria Permana, 13, who previously weighed 192 kilograms joked with a replica of his body while he was still obese in front of his house in Karawang. ONCE known as the heaviest child in the world, Arya Permana, from Karawang, West Java, Indonesia is now an active teenager who likes to play badminton with his school friends. Arya weighed 423lbs (over 30 stone) at his heaviest and struggled to do simple activities like walk down the road to school or even take a bath. The 14-year-old lost an incredible 220lbs after having weight loss surgery. But while the teenager is now able to lead a much more active life, he has been left with excess skin on his chest, stomach, back and arms. The skin on his arms in particular left Arya embarrassed and he would try to cover it up with long shirts. It also meant when he did participate in sports the excess skin would rub and irritate him. The teenager underwent the first of at least four more planned surgeries at the Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung in July 2019, to reduce the excess skin on his arms. He hopes to return for further skin removal surgeries in the future - although with the COVID-19 pandemic it's not confirmed when he will be able to have the subsequent surgeries.
