Dag Hammarskjold Conferring With Colleagues
(Original Caption) U.S. Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, Dag Hammarskjold, UN Secretary General, Sir Pierson Dixon, of Britain, James J. Wadsworth (1905 - 1984), and James Barco confer before the UN Security Council session today on the Palestine situation. Ambassador Lodge called on the council to check "the drift toward war" in the Middle East and send Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold on a peace mission to the Arab states and Israel. Lodge took the floor after the western big three powers agreed to delay a decision on sending Hammarskjold on the trouble shooting mission and grant Arabs and Israelis alike a chance to voice their viewpoints.
