O'Neill devastated as Northern Ireland fail to reach World Cup

Press conference with Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill following their 0-0 draw with Switzerland, which saw them lose 1-0 on aggregate and miss out on a place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He says he is devastated by the nature of the defeat given events in Belfast in the first leg and then how well they played in Basel in the second, says his players were in tears at the final whistle, says there was a massive reaction from his players in this game to the disappointment and injustice of the first leg, says he wasn’t worried the game may have been postponed due to the rain but it did make for a challenging game, says it’s extremely cruel that they’re missing out on a World Cup because of the poor decision in Belfast to award the penalty against Corry Evans, says he hasn’t considered his own future despite speculation linking him with a number of jobs and at present is under contract until 2020 and won’t be making any rash decisions, talks about the outstanding performance of George Saville on only his 4th appearance for his country and wishes the Swiss side good luck for the World Cup - adding that he doesn’t hold them at all responsible for the situation in Belfast
