GUJARAT, INDIA - 2014/06/25: The intricate carvings of the structure of 'Rani-ki-Vav'. Rani Ki Vav is one of the finest stepwells in India. It is a stepwell in Gujarat built in the 11th century in memory of King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty. The stepwell was approved by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its exceptional example of technological development in utilizing ground water resources. The Rani-ki-Vav (the Queens Stepwell) is located on the banks of the Saraswati river and was initially built as a memorial to a king in the 11th century AD. Queen Udayamati commissioned this stepwell, in 1063 A D in the memory of her husband King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty.
