IRAQ-KURDS-IS-CONFLICT
The governor of the Iraqi Province of Kirkuk, Najm al-Din Omar (R), receives Iraqi President Fuad Masum on March 3, 2015 at his office in the multi-ethnic northern city of Kirkuk, about 240 kilometres (150 miles) north of Baghdad as the Iraqi government launched its largest operation against the Islamic State group, mobilising a 30,000-strong force for the push to retake Tikrit in the northern Salaheddin province. Last month, Iraqi Kurdish forces and police retook an oil field in Kirkuk province that was seized by the jihadists and freed 24 workers who had been taken captive.
