In what is believed to be the first case of its kind, Mrs Unnell Lee is making a posthumous claim of racial discrimination against the Post Office on behalf of her son. He was found hanged from a martial arts belt tied to a roof rafter at the family home in Hall Green, Birmingham, on November 16, 1998. At the preliminary hearing in Birmingham today, employment tribunal chairman John Van Gelder allowed Mrs Lee to lodge the action on behalf of her son, despite the application being made after the normal time limit for claims.
