Rust-Belt Connecticut City Continues To Struggle With Economic Woes
WATERBURY, CT - MAY 20: Ruben Albert and Rafael Santiago, who are both homeless and looking for work, cook soup outside of the tent encampment where they live on May 20, 2013 in Waterbury, Connecticut. Waterbury, once a thriving industrial city with one of the largest brass manufacturing bases in the world, has suffered economically in recent decades as manufactoring jobs have left the area. According to recent census data, 20.6%. of the city's residents were living below the poverty level. Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries provides 579 meals daily to Waterbury's neediest residents Sunday through Friday. This represents a 19% increase over the same period last year.
