Manifestation Contre Pollution d'Air à Chamonix

[UNVERIFIED CONTENT] Protestors rally in front of the Chamonix Mont Blanc, France Office of Tourism on February 8th 2014 to protest state government inaction on the problem of air pollution in the alpine valley. Organisers stated around 1300 people marched along the Autoroute Blanche starting from the Tunnel du Mont Blanc to town center to demand action on the continuing air pollution problems facing the town, and the lack of state government implementation of a plan to protect the air quality. Protestors included the mayors and politicians from several local towns in the region including Chamonix Mont Blanc and Les Houches. Speakers mentioned continuing and growing health problems due to the poor air quality in the region, which exceeds the allowed governmental pollution limits close to 40 days per year and on some days now requires school children to stay indoors at recess. The red sign on the left reads (translation) "Arve Valley Suffocated" (original French) "Vallée de l'Arve Asphyxiée" and the sign on the right is part of a larger sign reading (translation) "Let's change the Air" (original French) "Changeons l'Air".
