MOUNT ELIZABETH, ANTARCTICA-JANUARY 26, 2013: On January 23, 2013, a plane carrying three Canadian crew members of Calgary’s Kenn Borek Air Ltd. was reported missing while on a supply mission from the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station to an Italian camp at Tera Nova Bay, near McMurdo, Antarctica. Reports from the site indicate that the impact was not survivable, and rescuers were not able to recover the bodies of the crew because of extremely steep slopes and unstable snow and ice. This image shows the area where the aircraft went down and highlights the extreme conditions and the rugged terrain of the site. (Photo DigitalGlobe via Getty Images)
