A lifeguard boat from the L.A.County Fire Department approaches three divers in the ocean hundreds

A lifeguard boat from the L.A.County Fire Department approaches three divers in the ocean hundreds of yards off the coast near the Terranea Resort on August 18, 2012. The three divers a short time earlier had found (as yet unidentified) body in the water. Rebecca Weiss had been reported missing on August 11 by her husband, Alan Weiss, who told police that she had gone diving alone in a cove near the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes but never returned. The couple, who have been married 20 years, are both experienced divers. Friends and family members of Weiss, of Marina Del Rey, had gathered at Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall Saturday morning to hand out fliers asking for the public's help in finding her. Rebecca Weiss' black BMW X5 and some diving equipment were found near the site where she may have entered the water, authorities said. Weiss told deputies he last saw his wife driving away from their Marina del Rey home wearing a wetsuit. He told authorities that the spot near the resort was one of the couple's favorite diving spots. Weiss told investigators that when his wife failed to return home at 5 p.m., he went to the area to look for her and found her belongings on the beach. Authorities conducted an extensive, yet fruitless search. (Photo by Gary Friedman/Los Angeles Times via Getty Images)
