Migratory Camp Dweller Fred F. Edwards Posing with His Family

(Original Caption) Freed from the shadow of jail through a decision of the United States Supreme Court is Fred F. Edwards, the former lay preacher and migratory camp resident. Edwards, given a six months suspended sentence for bringing his wife's brother into California in defiance of the so-called "Anti-Oakie" law, was found within his rights when the high tribunal gave a ruling that invalidated the state's 40 year old law against transporting persons. Edwards is shown with Mrs. Edwards and their family after receiving word of the court's ruling. (Photo by © Bettmann/CORBIS/Bettmann Archive)
